Salt Bath
The Salt Bath Process is used for the hardening of cutting and forming tools, as well as machinery components. High speed tool steel hardening requires the most exacting control of all heat-treat applications. As a result, the majority of quality tool manufacturers prefer salt bath heat treatment of their tools.

Process
We offer salt bath hardening of work pieces up to 68” in length with precisely controlled temperatures up to 2200°F. Molten salt is considered the "ideal" heat treating medium. When the work piece is immersed in the molten salt, heat is transferred by direct contact. Air cannot contact the work piece and scaling and oxidation and decarburization are avoided. Heat transfer into components is very rapid - 4 to 6 times faster than possible with radiation or convection methods. Additionally, the uniform rate of heat transfer permits components having complex geometries and diverse cross-sections to be heat treated and quenched with minimal distortion. The fast heat-up and quench rates and unsurpassed temperature uniformity of this process combined with our careful fixturing of your parts means consistent results, superior tool performance, shorter processing time, and faster turnaround time.
